A
lot of people say they have life all figured out, they know exactly who they
are and who they want to be. Well, I say,
good for them! Interestingly, no matter how in control of your life you think
you are, there has been or currently are some limitations that you put on
yourself. We all do! Say, for example,
you are a banker and have never worked as a plumber before and then you say, “Nah
I’m not handy” or you have never had voice training before and then you think
you can’t sing because when you open your mouth to sing, it doesn’t sound pleasant.
Now
before you go on and give me exceptions to the rules and tell me all about
natural limitations that humans have, hear me out. I’m saying that majority of
the things we say we can’t do or the person we say we can’t be is as a result
of us having never tried. If the person who says she can’t sing, dedicates a
lot of her time to voice training, I bet she can sing just fine. People's
physical bodies do not reflect talent or
the lack of it.
In the examples above; is there a physical characteristic that
makes a person musical, or able to use tools, No: There is no physical mark,
gift, growth, look, or any other physical manifestation that gives us the
ability to do something. What we must realize is that what we are is a reflection;
a reflection of the mental image we have of ourselves. If you think you can’t
run fast because your legs are short, just remember that there are people with
no legs at all who still participate in running competitions. Until a couple of
years ago, no one believed that a person could run 100 meters in 9 seconds.
Well, newsflash, someone did it!
We
all have these little boxes that we put ourselves and want to stay there as a
result of fear or having no interest in even trying. You have to break out of
the box and challenge yourself to do things that you never thought you could do
in a thousand years! Think you can’t ace that test? You can! Think you can’t
lose that weight? You can! Think you can’t bag that plum job? You can! Think
the love of your life is way out of your league? You’d be surprised if you
would just try.
Get
out of your comfort zone. Think bigger than you are now, act on your thoughts
else the thoughts will just remain exactly that – thoughts. Believe in yourself
and watch how your life changes. Now, for you to break out of the limitations
that you have put on yourself, it’s not going to be all rosy. You are going to
hit a few bumps on your way- maybe even more than a few. The only thing you can
do when this happens is to focus on what you want and be determined to get it.
Get out of that box!
Nice talk. But to me I think the major limitations we humans are facing is TIME, cause we might be soo willing to do different things like acquiring some skill and be good at it but then we never have time time. I hope u agree with me but if otherwise you can give reasons
ReplyDeleteTime, or the sense of time is actually a limitation that we humans put on ourselves. We want to start exercising or read books but we procrastinate because we feel we don't have time for that. colonel Harland Sandals (KFC founder) started his business at an old age after failing at virtually every kind of work he did. He didn't let the fact that he was old get in the way of what he really wanted to do. Time is just an excuse we give ourselves to remain in the box. i bet if you start that exercise routine for 5 mins a day, you can work your way up or if you read 5 pages a day, you can read almost 10 books by the end of the year. time should not be a reason as to why you are not out there chasing your dreams, it should be a motivator.
