TRAVELLING WITH CHILDREN THIS HOLIDAY? 5 TIPS FOR A STRESS-FREE TRAVEL

It’s the holiday season! And if you are like every parent out there, you’re probably planning to take your children on a summer trip before school resumes in the fall. If you have never gone through the holiday travelling tradition before, then lucky for you! As for the parents who are regulars at this, they can tell you how stressful these trips can be. Not just on the parents but even the children as well. Follow these tips for a hassle-free and memorable holiday for you and your family.
  •  Plan ahead

Plan, plan, plan! This is perhaps the most important thing to do when planning a holiday trip. Many people visit other countries (even other continents) during the holidays. As exciting as that is, failing to plan ahead of the trip can lead to a stressful trip. Make sure to book an accommodation in advance if you do not have one already at your destination. It will be a shame to be stranded in a totally different country.
  •  Research your destination

When travelling with children, it is important to make sure that they are safe and out of harm’s way. Researching your destination will let you know the current situation in the place you are visiting. Do you need to pack different clothing for a change in weather or is the region currently a war zone? You need to know absolutely everything you can about your holiday destination before taking your children there. There’s also the fact that you need to know all the great places to visit when you arrive at your destination. Else, your trip will feel wasted and unmemorable.
  • Pack all necessary items

When traveling with children, you cannot afford to skip steps. Make sure to pack everything they would need – unless of course, you would rather roam the streets in another state or country trying to buy things. Pack all medications and get a doctor’s report for drugs which would not be allowed on board an airplane. Don’t forget to carry with you a copy of the family’s medical history and health insurance. Credit and debit cards can be a life saver, so those should absolutely be with you.
  • Always have I.D on

As adults, I cannot stress enough the importance of having a means of identification on you whenever you leave your house. But it is also important to have them on your children when travelling. Make sure each child is carrying a means of identification and also include your number as an emergency contact.
  • Prepare for flying

If you are travelling by air, then the process gets a little more complicated. There are visa applications and airport check-ins and then the actual flying (which can be painfully boring for children). Thankfully, none of this would be a problem with adequate and timely preparation. Make sure you arrive at the airport on time and have your luggage checked in. Remove important documents and medications from checked luggage. Bring in games for children to pass the time with when on board.  Do your best to keep the children quiet and comfortable during the flight.

Lastly, plan your holiday such that you have a few days off after you return before resuming back to work. Trust me, you are going to need those few days to relax and put the house back in order before going back to work.
